| BJP owes an apology to nation over release of Masood: NC | | | Jammu, Aug 30 The National Conference (NC) today asked the BJP's top leadership to apologise to the nation for releasing Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar and his three associates in the Kandhar plane hijacking episode.
Addresing a press conference here, the party's Jammu province President Ajay Sadhotra flayed the BJP's top leadership for their decision to release Masood despite the resistance put up by the then Cabinet and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah.
Quoting from Jaswant Singh's controversial book 'Call to Honour', Mr Sadhotra claimed that it clearly stated that the cabinet was unanimous on rejecting the demands of hijackers. ''Even Dr Abdullah not only resisted the decision of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishan Advani but also cautioned them of consequences of this,'' he added.
Referring to the local BJP leaderships's allegations about releasing of about 50 militants and their rehabiliation by Farooq Abdullah government which resulted in re-emergence of militancy in the state, Mr Sadhotra said the militants were released as per the Central Government policy and many central agencies were also involved in this process.
He said the decision was taken in a bid to bring those misguided youth, who either had shunned the gun or agreed to do so, to join the national mainstream. ''Even today the NC is not averse to dialogue or an effort to bring all those who shun the path of violence and use peaceful democratic avenues into the mainstream to explore the possibilities of resolution of the kashmir issue,'' he aid.
