| Gujjars condemn assassination of community men | | | Early Times Reporter

Strongly condemning brutal assassination of "Gujjars of Rajasthan" the Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir today appealed Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to intervene in the matter and stop killings of innocent people who are peacefully demanding the ST Status .They have expressed deep shock over the brutal approach of Rajasthan law enforcing agencies in dealing with the situation arising out of police atrocities which has resulted in enormous loss of lives.
"We would go to any extent to provide moral and ethical support to Gujjars of Rajasthan who are fighting for their "Tribal identity" and legitimate rights for grant of "Scheduled Tribe Status" to this down trodden community" said Dr. Javaid Rahi, National Secretary of the Tribal Foundation adding that if State of Rajasthan failed to redress the grievances of their community, they would march in large numbers to that State.
The Foundation has also appealed the Gujjars of all northern states of India for peaceful agitation, rallies and demonstrations if government fails to address the demand of the community. The government should act before it is too late as the agitation could take a dangerous turn, the Foundation warned.
Condemning killing of 19 community members, various Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar leaders and organizations on Saturday expressed their dismay over the use of force on their counterparts in Rajasthan during a peaceful demonstration held in support of their demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
Former Minister and prominent Gujjar leader of Jammu and Kashmir, Mian Altaf in a statement strongly condemned the killing of 19 persons in police firing and said the government of Rajasthan has completely failed to tackle the situation. He demanded the dismissal of Vasundera Raje Government and imposition of President's rule in the State of Rajasthan.
He said that Gujjars of J&K State stand to the cause of Gujjars of Rajasthan as this crucial juncture and are ready to give any sacrifice to show their solidarity and oneness with the former. |
