| Bhaderwah turns into garrison for Patil's visit | | | Early Times Reporter Bhaderwah | May 25 The small mountainous area here turned into a security fortress on Sunday as President Pratibha Patil arrived to inaugurate a Jammu University campus. Over 700 security personnel supported by more than 1,260 army personnel and volunteers of the Village Defence Committee fortified this landlocked area. All entry and exit points were closed and the massive security apparatus was in place, with personnel taking positions in strategic areas and mountain tops. It is for the first time since Independence that Bhaderwah is witnessing the visit of President of the country and the reception committee had drawn over five thousand schoolchildren from several institutes to welcome Patil. The President, who arrived in Jammu and Kashmir on a 5-day visit starting May 23 spent the night in the scenic Gulmarg yesterday. She had visited Uri and Tangdhar sectors and addressed troops deployed along the Line of Control (LOC) besides attending convocation and inaugurating a Kashmiri study centre. Patil will attend the convocation of Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology and lay foundation of its administrative block in Jammu on Monday. |
