7/20/2019 12:37:00 AM
ANANTNAG, July 19: Unknown gunmen on Friday afternoon shot dead a Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Mehbooba Mufti's cousin brother Sajad Mufti outside Masjid in Baba Mohalla area of Bijbehara in South Kashmir's Anantnag district. Reports identified the slain cop as Farooq Ahmad of Dirpora Khiram, saying that he was standing guard outside a local Masjid in Bijbehara when the unidentified gunmen fired upon him. It added that former chief Minister's cousin brother was offering prayers in a Masjid when his PSO was shot at by the unknown gunmen this afternoon. Reports said that the cop was immediately rushed to the Sub District Hospital Bijbehara for treatment where doctors declared him brought dead. However, reports said that after being fired upon, the gunmen also decamped with the AK-47, service rifle of Farooq Ahmad. This is the second such incident in the violence-torn district of the state. On July 15, a policeman guarding a National Conference (NC) leader was killed when suspected militants opened fire in Hillar area of Anantnag district.
