Early Times Report

Kupwara, July 22: The dilapidated condition of Tangdhar-Teetwal, Tangdhar-Budwan, Tangdhar-Jabdi and other main roads in North Kashmir's Kupwara district is causing immense hardships to the commuters as concerned authorities have failed to repair work on this road for last many years.
The 14 kilometers long road from Tangdhar-Teetwal on Kupwara- Karnah National Highway (NH) is in shambles due to which thousands of commuters are facing tremendous inconvenience every day.
The locals said the road is so narrow that only one vehicle can pass through at a time. "One vehicle has to stop to make way for the other. Sometimes we have to wait for hours for our turn to pass through. Thousands of vehicles pass everyday including the heavy loaded trucks," said Fayaz Ahmad.
He said that the passenger vehicles have to move at snail's pace in order to avoid the potholes and bumps which lead to failure of employees and students to reach their respective destinations on time. "The biggest causalities, though, are the sick on their way to hospitals," he said.
Mohammad Yaseen, a Social activist said, "that the area is also prone to landslides, and a small landslide completely cuts off the villages like Tangdhar-Budwan, Tangdhar-Jabdi, Tangdhar-Gabra and other roads for days. They further complained that several people including children have developed respiratory problems due to inhaling of dust emanating from the road."
"There have been several mishaps on the road due to bad road. Private vehicle owners complain about increase in the annual maintenance cost of their vehicle. We do not want to ply on this road as the maintenance cost of our vehicles has gone very high," said Mohammad Yaseen.
"People expressed anger towards the authorities and urged upon them to look into the matter as early as possible so that locals do not suffer any more."
