| Inquiry ordered in deaths at valley's only maternity hospital | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | May 27 Concerned over an increased number of deaths reported from the valley's only maternity hospital Lal Ded, the Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a three-member committee to inquire into the matter. The committee headed by Shahida Mir, Head of Gynecology and Obstruction department of the hospital, will ascertain as to whether there was any negligence on the part of functionaries of the hospital, an official spokesman said. The inquiry was ordered following media reports about frequent deaths taking place in the hospital since January this year, he said. The committee has been asked to submit its report within 20 days, the official said its other members are Muneer Khan, Head of Surgery and M A Kamili, Medical department head. The medical superintendent of the hospital has been directed to provide the logistic support in the inquiry, he said. The committee will also suggest measures to be taken by the government in further improving medical facilities extended by the hospital, the spokesman said. |
