| Another earth moving machine seized, fine imposed | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 27 Sleuths of Commercial Taxes Checkpost Lakhanpur seized another 'earth moving machine' for being allegedly imported to the state without paying the requisite tax. Rs 1.50 lakh was imposed as fine on the offender. Officials said the reactivated task force of Commercial Taxes Checkpost Lakhanpur intercepted one 'L&T Make Earth Moving Machine' owned by Ashok Kumar Singh near Maghar Khad which clandestinely entered into the state via Maghar Khad. The offender through minor route Mandi Mandikran in connivance with unscrupulous elements was trying to evade payment of entry tax. L&T-make earth moving machine was seized under the provision of J&K Entry Tax on Goods Act 2000 & J&K VAT Act, 2005, added the reports. An entry tax and penalty amounting to Rs 1,50,000 was imposed on the offender. It is pertinent to mention here that few days back one JCB was also apprehended by the alert sleuths of Commercial Taxes Checkpost on May 21, 2008 which had entered the state from Bamyal (Punjab) through Kot Punnu area and penalty amounting to Rs.15.37 lakhs was imposed on the offender. The whole operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Commercial Taxes Inderjeet Singh. He has resolved to increase the vigil along the Punjab bordering district Kathua to check menace of smuggling of taxable goods into the State. |
