| OBC status for Lohars, Tarkhans: CS | | | Early Times Reporter

Chief Secretary B R Kundal has issued instructions to all the Deputy Commissioners to issue Other Backward Classes (OBC) certificates in respect of Lohar and Tarkhan classes as these two classes have also been included in the central list of Other Backward Classes in respect of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Secretary described this while interacting with a deputation of the OBCs who called on him to apprise him of the problems being faced by these classes, this morning at Jammu today.
The Chief Secretary said that circular instructions have been issued to all the Deputy Commissioners vide GAD Circular No. 7 of 2008 dated 9-02-2008 regarding the issue of OBC certificates by the designated authorities. Only 21 categories are eligible to get certificate of OBC for applying against the posts in Government of India and its subordinate agencies, he added.
As per the Ministry of Social Justice and empowerment resolution No. 12015/9/2000-BCC dated 6-09-2001 the classes of Lohar and Tarkhans have also been included in the central list of OBC in respect of Jammu and Kashmir State.
Accordingly, all the Deputy Commissioners/ Authorized Officers are instructed to issue the certificate of OBC in respect of the Lohar and Tarkhan so that the candidates of these two categories can also avail the benefit of reservation. |
