| India wants Pak to say sorry for ceasefire breach | | | New Delhi | May 27 India has demanded an apology from Pakistan for repeated violation of the ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. Indicating a toughening of stance, Minister of State for Defence MM Pallam Raju has termed firing at Indian posts on the LoC as "unpardonable". "I think it is a surprise, because after five years of ceasefire, an untoward incident like this is unpardonable and if they don't have a valid explanation, I'm sure they will apologise in the appropriate forum," Pallam Raju said. The minister was also apprehensive that with summer peaking and melting of snow infiltration would also rise across the LoC. He added that the security forces were all geared up to thwart any infiltration bid from across the border. On May 21 a flag meeting was also held between senior Indian and Pakistani army officers in Mendhar sector to sort out the issues arising out of the “unprovoked” firing from the Pakistani side on May 19 in which one Indian soldier was killed. The Indian side made it plain that it was not possible for the firing to have taken place without the involvement or knowledge of the Pakistan Army. Officials said that even if the firing was by militants, the loud sounds of rocket launchers and grenade explosions would not have been missed by the Pakistan Army. In that case, had the Pakistan Army apprehended anyone, the Indian side asked, according to officials. Pakistan had assured India that it would look into the matter. |
