| PM keen on development of J-K: Azad | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | May 28 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that the Prime Minister has been very generous towards Jammu & Kashmir and its development. He said during the last four years the State has received such huge financial support from the central government as had been never witnessed during the past 6 decades. He said the Ladakh region has also received his focused attention. He referred to two important power projects in Leh and Kargil districts work on which is going pace round the clock. He said the projects on completion, would change the power scenario in the region. He said the two projects would be completed ahead of schedule and open a new chapter of development in the history of Ladakh. The Chief Minister said this while inaugurating two vital bridges in Kashmir valley at Padgampora in Pulwama district and Sitkari at Sonamarg, improving connectivity and facilitating traffic movement in the respective areas situated in north and south Kashmir, respectively. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister lauded the Indian Air Force for providing funds for the construction of the Padgampora Bridge, saying the facility had come as a great relief to the people. He said the Air Force had always come to the rescue of the people of Jammu & Kashmir in times of need and emergencies. He recalled the snow tsunami and devastating earthquake of 2005 causing heavy losses to life and property in the State. He said the Air Force on both these occasions pressed its fleet of airplanes and helicopters into service in aid and relief measures. He said hundreds of injured people were evacuated from the quake hit areas to the hospitals who were saved due to timely medicare. He said the relief material from various cities of the country was also transported by IAF planes to the State. Likewise, the Chief Minister recalled the evacuation of thousands of stranded persons in Jammu and Srinagar due to the prolonged closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway during the winter of 2007-8. He said not a single penny was charged by IAF from the State government for ferrying the stranded passengers. He thanked the defence ministry and IAF on behalf of his government and the people of the State for always being there at the time of need. |
