Non-inclusion of Raman Bhalla in CoM, a great blunder: people speak

JAMMU AUG-30 The raw deal given to the Jammu district in yesterday’s cabinet expansion in the State Council of Ministers (CoM) headed by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad especially, the non-inclusion of the party’s stalwart Raman Bhalla has sent shock waves among the people in general and his supporters in particular.
Describing the cabinet expansion as irrational and imbalanced, the political circles here have expressed their mixed reaction for ignoring those leaders who have always been at the beck and call of the party leadership and had been instrumental for strengthening the party at the grass root levels.
The EARLY TIMES today interviewed a cross section of society to know their reaction about the cabinet expansion and majority of the people were dissatisfied for ignoring the dedicated leaders like Raman Bhalla, who has been instrumental in changing the face of outer Jammu during his tenure as Minister in the Mufti led government.
The peoples circles expressed their displeasure over the neglect of senior Congress leaders in the cabinet and maintained that out of three leaders who had won 2002 elections from Jammu city, only one has been inducted in the cabinet as against three in the Mufti led government.
When EARLY TIMES wanted to know the reaction of the congress leader and the most aspiring candidate for the cabinet berth, Raman Bhalla out rightly denied that he was in the race or he had asked anyone for it. ‘ I am a gross root level worker to serve the people of the constituency and would remain so in future also’ adding that ‘to become a minister is not so important as service to the people in any capacity is important’, he observed.
Describing young and dynamic Ramban Bhalla as ‘Voice of Jammu’, the President Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ram Sahai told EARLY TIMES that non-inclusion of Raman Bhalla in the council of ministers is against the aspirations of the people. Terming Bhalla as the ‘massiha of masses’, Sahai said that he (Bhalla) has many positive points to his credit as he has always been among the masses anytime and anywhere and did a commendable job in his constituency. His non-inclusion, he said, is a great loss for Jammuits in general and his supporters in particular.
Hailing the decision of giving due representation to the members of the rural areas in the cabinet expansion, Former Vice Chancellor University of Jammu Prof M R Puri favoured inclusion of Raman Bhalla in the cabinet being the most deserved member of the party who has been instrumental in strengthening the party as grass roots level .He expressed his optimism that Chief Minister would consider his candidature for the three vacant seats which are to be filled up in the next expansion expected in near future.
Prof Zahoor-ud-Din former Head of the Department Urdu University of Jammu, though maintained that the inclusion of any member in the council of ministers is the prerogative of the Chief Minister, but at the same time the dedicated and honest workers needed to be given preference.
Shohab Inayat Malik, Director professional studies favoured inclusion of young and dynamic leaders in the cabinet.
Describing Raman Bhalla as ‘hero of poor people’, Bharat Bhushan Assistant Manager Indane said that non-inclusion of Bhalla, who was among the front- runners for the cabinet berth, has annoyed the people and sent shock waves among his followers especially the people of prestigious Gandhinagar constituency where he was elected with a thumping majority.
Prithviraj Kundal, Prop.Chenab Gas Agency said that there is no parallel to Raman Bhalla who even without holding any position has been always with the people espousing their cause .His non-inclusion is a great set back to the Congress party and predicted that in the next general assembly elections due in 2008, the Congress would have to face a tough challenge if the dedicated and energetic leaders are marginalized and discouraged.
