| SAC initiates inquiry against MoS PHE | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | May 28 State Accountability Commission (SAC), Srinagar wing, has initiated enquiry against Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, PHE Dr Romesh Chander to ascertain the reasons for 'aborting' the transfer orders of 'shady engineers'. The decision in this effect came after the 'failure' of the Minister to appear before the Commission to answer the allegations raised by some contractors of district Anantnag. The contractors of Anantnag in a joint complaint number K-09/2008 submitted before the State Accountability Commission had alleged that the Junior Engineers of PHE Division Bijbehara, Kulgam and Shopian had resorted to open 'loot', 'corruption', 'favoritism' and 'mal-administration' in their respective areas. Following joint complaint by the contractors, Chief Engineer PHE Srinagar G.M. Dar took prompt action against and issued transfer order no 41/PHE/Esttt/2008 dated 09-02-2008 of all the 'shady engineers' to provide respite to the contractors and redress their grievance, maintained the complaint. The Contractors had further alleged that although the Chief Engineer took prompt action and ordered the transfer of all the 'corrupt engineers' but the MoS for PHE Dr. Romesh Chander aborted the transfer orders without any explanation, reason or justification. The transfer orders have been passed in the interest of administration and to save the citizens and contractors from the 'corrupt officers', maintained the complaint. It was also projected in the complaint that these engineers had been continuing in the division since last eight years and had not been shifted, even after completion of tenure of two years. The contractors challenged the intervention of the Minister before the Commission. After the complaint, the Commission issued a notice to the Minister to appear before he but he did not appear before the Commission to answer the allegation. The commission after hearing the counsel for the complainants and going through the allegations on complaint ordered regular enquiry against the junior minister. |
