Chief Secretary B R Kundal convened a high level meeting to review the pace of works on the projects under Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) here today.
The project reviewed include Sidhra- Surinsar road of 39 kms to be completed with an estimated cost of Rs. 39.90 crore, Bari Brahmana- Bishnah road of 6 kms length with an estimated cost of Rs. 6.5 crore and digging of 52 tube wells in the city limits to coup with the growing demand of drinking water in the city.
Among others, Principal Secretary, CEO ERA Mr. Pankaj Jain, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey, DDC Jammu Mr Hirdesh Kumar Singh, Chief Engineer PWD Mr. Iftkhar Ahmed, SEs R&B and Hydraulic, Director ERA Mr. Pandurang Pole and Joint Director Information Mr. S. K. Sharma were present.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Kundal enjoined upon the executing agencies to gear up the pace of work so as to complete these projects well in time. It was apprised in the meeting that 18.5 kms stretch out of 39 kms long Sidhra- Surinsar road under construction and be ready for black topping with three main bridges out of four falling in the length of 18.5 km road, two bridges are presently under construction and the construction works on the remaining portion is on hault due to the existence of wild life sanctuary in the area.
Chief Secretary directed the Engineers to construct concrete shock absorbing walls on the vulnerable sites of the roads to avoid accidents. He directed the executing agency to ensure the completion of Bari-Brahmana- Bishnah road by deploying on double shift method as men, material and machinery is readily available therefore job should accomplished by June 8 before the onset of rainy season.
It was apprised in the meeting that construction of 52 tube wells is being carried on in the Jammu city to meet the growing demand of drinking water supply and completion 20 tube wells is expected by ending June 2008, ten numbers each in Gandhinagar and Jammu city. Mr. Kundal exhorted for short and long term measures to meet the drinking water requirement of the city, for water Shortage River Chenab is the only solution.
Later, the Chief Secretary also convened a meeting with the engineers of hydraulic wing and directed them to conduct de-silitation in Bishna and R S Pura also at remove the earth of de-silitation from the banks of the canals.
