Winning their second consecutive league tie, Tamil Nadu today consolidated their position in the Cluster-I in the ongoing 62nd National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy at different venues, here.
After beating Sikkim in the opener, Tamil Nadu today trounced Chandigarh by two goals one at M A Stadium, here.
The better side of Tamil Nadu dominated the proceedings right from the beginning. But the break through came their way only in the 37th minute when C S Sabeeth scored his first goal. Second goal which was again scored by Sabeeth came in the 68th minute.
Earlier, before the start of the match both the teams were introduced with the special guest, Deputy Director Tourism, B S Sodi.
In another Cluster-I league match played at GGM Science College in the afternoon session, Sikkim outplayed Bihar 5-1 to keep their chances alive for the next round of pre-quarterfinals.
Though Bihar scored the first goal, yet Sikkim made it a big win playing an excellent game in the second half. Shanshe Ansari and Bikash Jairu played a key role in the outright victory of Sikkim with both scoring two goals each. While Ansari netted the ball in the 34th and 60th minute, Bikash Jairu scored in 71st and 83rd minute. Ong Tshering was another scorer from Sikkim.
