| Politicians should avoid making false promises: Chaman | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 29 The former Union Minister and a senior leader of the BJP, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has asked the politicians not to make unrealistic and false promises and thus, get degrade their image amongst the masses. Commenting upon the statements of the National Conference as also leaders of the certain other political parties that in case they came to power, they would ensure at least one government job to each family and till this was done, they would grant subsistence allowance to each of the educated unemployed youth, Prof. Gupta said how any government can provide a job to each family. In the state there are over 17 lakh families and thus, the strength of the state staff would have to be atleast 17 lakhs. At present the strength of the employees in Jammu and Kashmir is over four lakhs which is highest in the country in comparison to other states of the country in proportionate to their population, he added and pointed out the Revenue of Jammu and Kashmir from its Own Internal Resources is just about Rs. 3500 crores whereas the bill of the state staff as also the spending on pensions is already touching to about Rs. 7000 crores and many of the employees do not get their emoluments in time and regularly because of paucity of funds. Prof. Gupta further said that out of the total Budget of about Rs. 19000 crores, over 85 per cent funding is dependent at the Centre and in such a situation to talk about providing at least one hob to each family itself looks ridiculous and misleading the innocent masses. Lashing upon the Congress Prof. Gupta recalled that such like misleading slogans have been in the habit of the Congress which party first raised the slogan of Gareebi Hatao (eradicate poverty) but the fact remains that whenever the Congress remained in power the poverty increased and the concept of Socialism was made a mockery as the difference between the riches and poor remained ever increasing. About the problem of unemployment, the BJP leader recalled that in J&K the providing of one job to each family was first of all promised by the Congress in their Election Manifesto of 1983, when this party had pledged on page 7 of their document that “At least one member of each family will be provided with employment and Allowance for unemployed graduates”. The Congress reiterated this pledge in 1987 Election Manifesto also, he added and further said taking cue from the Congress, the National Conference and some others also started making such like unrealistic assurances and misleading slogans. Prof. Gupta said that no doubt the unemployment especially amongst the educated and trained youth, is assuming serious proportions but the real cause had been the separate status and Article 370 of the Constitution by virtue of which the free flow of industrialization and other developmental activities cannot be possible. No state can progress without industrialization and encouragement to investors but in Jammu and Kashmir the separatism and narrow parochial outlook is heavily coming in the way. The other major source of unemployment in this state can be the development of tourism but the communal outlook and the regional bias of the ruling leaders had come in the way of tourism especially in Jammu region and thus the ever increasing unemployment in this region although full of the bounties of the nature. The overcome the problem of unemployment and many other ills, there is the need for change in the basic policies and to put this state at par with other parts of the country, he asserted. |
