| Pak not keen on cross-border trade: Azad | | | Early Times Reporter

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has pointed a finger at Pakistan for delaying the cross-border trade between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad.
Azad said the formalities were complete on the Indian side, but a green signal was awaited from Pakistan. "As far as LoC trade is concerned, we are ready but, they (Pakistan) do not seem too eager," said Azad. India and Pakistan had decided to introduce a truck service in 2005, on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, nearly five months after launching the historic Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service on the same route.
India and Pakistan decided to facilitate trade ties between the two countries by allowing free movement of goods and services, without imposing any duty on it.
The central government in its effort to start trans-border trade with Pakistan had sent a list of 14 products to Pakistan for approval, out of which the authorities had selected Kashmiri carpets, saffron, rugs, shawls, fruits, flowers, silk products for trade purposes in Pakistan.
Jammu and Kashmir currently exports horticultural produce estimated at Rs. 20 billion and carpets and other handicrafts worth Rs.7 billion of India's total exports. |
