| Samooh theatre stages Dogri play “Paharan” | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 30 In its attempt to pay tribute to senior photo journalist Ashok Sodhi; Samooh theatre staged a Dogri play ‘Paharan’ written by Rajneesh Gupta and directed by Sudhir Mahajan at Abinav Theatre, here today. The play depicts the plight of young girls living in the hills, who are repeatedly sold by men. Matia who is the central character of the play is sold by her father to a drunkard. Matia is badly tortured by her mother-in-law. Matian being a young and wife of a drunkard husband, develops illegal relation with another man of the same village in order to fulfill her physical desire. Eventually, she gets pregnant and delivers a male baby. When her mother-in-law comes to know about her relations with another man she snatches the baby and ask her to leave home. The other man namely Ramta purchases her for just few hundreds of rupees. Ramta’s wife moves towards metropolitan where her fate throw her into prostitution. The prominent who enacted in the play included Kanta Sharma as Matian, Suresh Kumar, Vikrant, Sanjay Kalotra, Sunny Mujjo and Daya Ram as costumes, play back singing by Pooja Bhagat, flute by Balkar, music of the play designed by Munish Kerni. Stage management by Seema Bhatti and the play assisted by Manoj Bhatt. On the occasion Rajesh Bittoo, Chairman Cooperative bank, was the chief guest and Prof. Usha Jayee, principal, Women college Parade presided while Balbir Singh Manhas advocate and Director Citizen Housing Cooperative Bank, Balwant Kumar, Bullo, Corporator, Bansi Lal Gupta, Corporator, Kulbir Handa (SHO), Rajesh Sharma, C.A., JDA Deptt. Were the guest of honour. |
