| Cheques worth Rs 11.53 lakhs distributed | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 31 As part of its welfare measures for the state's weaker section, the J&K government distributed cheques worth Rs 11.53 lakhs among physically handicapped, old-aged and widows of the Bishnah Assembly constituency in Jammu division. The Social Welfare Minister Mr Abdul Gani Vakil distributed the cheques to 471 beneficiaries at a function held in Bishnah last evening. Addressing the gathering, Mr Vakil said the Ghulam Nabi Azad-led coalition government was fully aware of the problems faced by the weaker sections. He said the government has launched various Centrally sponsored schemes to uplift their socio-economic condition. Mr Vakil said the government is also pursuing with the Centre to raise the amount of honorariums granted to members of this section. The minister further said top priority was given to speedy disposal of promotion files of employees at different levels in his department. On other reformative measures initiated by the department, Mr Vakil said the poor who have not possessed Below Poverty Line cards would be eligible for pension after their names were recommended by the namberdars and chowkidars of their respective villag es. Higher Education Minister Mr Gulchain Singh Charak, Minister of State for Industries, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr Ramesh Sharma and other top officials of the state attended the function. |
