A film festival in Jammu, on faith and conflict is dedicated to understanding the conflict and brokering peace. The visual power of the medium is raising questions and finding new ways ahead for reconciliation. The film Floating Lamp of the Shadow Valley was screened as part of a film festival at the Jammu University. The film is about a nine-year-old Kashmiri boy, Arif, who is coping with conflict. Abandoned by his militant father, Arif becomes the sole bread earner for his family. The story revolves around his journey through the Dal Lake and Kashmir's turmoil. Director, Centre of Adult & Continuing Education, Jammu University, Poonam Dhawan says, "It is important to discuss the issue at its core level. What are these people fighting for? It is a politicians' fight or is it peoples' fight?" |
