Jammu | May 31
With 17 days left for the first batch of pilgrims for leaving for the holy cave of Amarnath the Shrine Board, headed by Governor S.K.Sinha,has completed 85 per cent of the work on clearing the Baltal-Cave mountain route.
A senior official of the Shrine Board today said the entire route will become passable within next three to four days.He said the work on clearing and upgrading the mountain route between Pahalgam and the cave, being undertaken by the Pahalgam Development Authority, was in full progress. He said that the route would be declared open for pilgrims within next 10 days.
The Shrine Board has completed setting up prefabricated tents at more than eight places and each tent has the capacity of accommodating 1400 pilgrims.Prefabr icated toilets too were being raised. He explained that the idea behind raising the prefabricated huts and toilets was not only to ensure safe shelter for the pilgrims but also conserve ecology in the area.He said while registering the pilgrims for the yatra they were being instructed not to defile the eco system and the scenic and pollution free view of the mountain tracks.
The Board has given permission for setting up 136 langars not only on the mountain route from Pahalgam to the cave or from Baltal side but on the highway between Kathua to Qazigund.
Already a group of security personnel have carried out security survey of the area and troops were being deployed in the immediate vicnity of the mountain cave while police and paramilitary forces were to be sent to man various check posts from the next week.
