| CBI claims enough evidence to nail Mattoo "murderer" | | | New Delhi, Aug 31 The CBI today told the Delhi High Court that it has consistent and tangible evidence to establish culpability of Santosh Singh in the sensational Priyardarshini Mattoo rape-cum-murder case.
"Notwithstanding the trial judge citing 14 reasons for acquitting the accused, we have enough material to connect the accused to the crime", Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subrahmaniam told a Division Bench of the Justice R S Sodhi and Justice P K Bhasin.
Subrahmaniam's assertion came during the opening of arguments in the January 23, 1996 alleged rape-cum-murder of Priyadarshini allegedly by Santosh Singh, son of a top IPS officer.
The Bench which heard the brief arguments said it would take up the appeal proceedings on a daily basis from September 5. |
