Work for tobacco free society: Charak to youngsters

Minister for Higher Education Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak on Saturday said that smoking is one of the most rampant social evils not only in our country but in the entire world.
This was stated by the Minister at a function held at Govt. MAM College on ‘World No Tobacco Day’ here this afternoon. The function was organized by Directorate of Environment and Remote Sensing J&K government.
Principal Govt. MAM College, Prof. M. S. Bloeria, Principal Govt. SPMR College of Commerce Prof. Sham Lal, former Principal GCW, Parade and Social Worker Prof. Rita Jitendra and faculty members, non-teaching staff, officers of environment and remote sensing department, students of various schools and colleges were present on the occasion.
Mr. Charak said that today younger generation trying to look stylish by lightening a cigarette in their mouth and consider smoke as a matter of pride and elegance suiting their standard of our society. He said that every smoker realizes the its harmful effects but still all go on smoking.
The Minister appreciated the role of organizers for holding such events in colleges and schools besides anti-tabacco advertisements conducted in numerous ways via television, radio, posters and hoardings, sponsorship of sports, entertainment events in popular youth locations so that the students are fully aware of ill effects of tobacco.
On the occasion, Mr. Charak presented mementos among the participants of various schools and colleges those were participated in the symposium, eassy writing and painting competitions.
Earlier, the Minister also attended the Annual function of R M College of Education, Sainik Colony where students of college presented colourful cultural items which were highly applauded by the faculty members, students, parents and non-teaching staff.
Mr. Charak distributed mementos among the participants.
Later, the Minister also conducted an open darbar at village Pandorian in Bishnah and assessed the genuine problems of the people which include desilting and maintenance of Smailpur Kothey, Prithvipur, Kotli Mian Fateh, Amir Nagar, Karail Manhasan, Deoli canals and water distributaries, repair and renovation of culverts over canal, blacktopping of Bishnah-Grore via Chorliee link road, repair of drought pump station at Lalyana, construction of deep drain along Karail Manhasan road.
Most of the problems projected by the people of Bishnah constituency were mitigated on the-spot.
Regarding desilting work of canal upto the tale end, he asked I&FC to immediately start the work so that the masses do not face any inconvenience during sowing season. He also asked for preparing estimate for construction of culvert and deep drain at Karail Manhasan and Amir Nagar compound wall around tube well at Trewa-I and submit for funding.
