DC reviews traffic management in Jammu city

JAMMU, Aug 19: Deputy Commissioner Sushma Chauhan today convened a meeting to streamline the state of traffic and regulate vehicular movement and management in Jammu city.
The meeting was attended by SSP Traffic, CPO, RTO, Engineers of PWD, PDD, PHE, I&FC, UEED, SDMs besides other senior officers of concerned departments.
The meeting discussed short term and long term plans including redesigning of various rotaries in city, construction of new rotaries, construction of overhead/ foot bridges at busy junctions, shifting of electrical poles from roads, removal of sign boards, removal of rehris and hawkers from roads and lanes, installation of dividers on roads already identified, completion of all undertaken lanes, drainage, road repairs, blacktopping, among others.
The DC asked the concerned to undertake concerted efforts to improve and streamline the traffic scenario in the city. She asked for increased inter-departmental cooperation to achieve this objective. She directed the concerned to take immediate efforts to install dividers at pre identified areas like approach road to Bathindi, Jewel Chowk, Bhagat Singh Chowk, and undertake road repairs, especially for pot holes on priority at Talab tillo, Patoli, Janipur areas besides other areas in the city.
With regard to shifting of electric poles, she directed the PDD to shift the poles immediately especially in accident prone areas, and areas where the poles create traffic obstructions. She also asked the concerned officers undertake anti-encroachment drives in all areas to further regulate traffic, besides asking for ensuring rehris and hawkers carry out their business in already identifies zones.
Earlier, the DC convened a meeting with the officers of Airport Authority, JMC, SDMs, revenue officers, Engineers of PWD, PDD, and PHE, regarding modalities for shifting of utilities for Jammu Airport expansion.
Meanwhile she Deputy Commissioner Sushma Chauhan convened a meeting of District Advisory Committee (DAC) to review implementation of Jammu and Kashmir Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Sex determination Prohibition and Regulation (PNDT) Act, here today.
During the meeting, approval was given for renewal of registration of 12 ultrasound diagnostic centers/clinics/Imaging Centres, while applications were also approved for fresh registration.
The DC issued strict directions to Chief Medical Officer to keep vigil on private ultra sound centers to check any violations of the PC & PNDT Act.
She directed the CMO to ensure private centers prominently display the rate list for various diagnostic tests, besides ensuring the display of warning against sex determination prominently in at least three languages. She asked for enhanced vigil on these clinics and to undertake regular inspections of their facilities. She also asked the CMO to submit a report on their conduct in the next DAC meeting.
