8/20/2019 10:49:24 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 20: Manoranjan Kala Kendra (Regd.), Jammu is going to stage a Punjabi play 'Rishtiyan Da Ki Rakhiye Naa?' at Abhinav Theatre, Canal Road, Jammu on 22nd August, 2019 at 4.45 PM. The play is written by Dr. Atamjeet and directed by Tejinder Singh Premee, a well known Punjabi theatre personality of Jammu & Kashmir. The play is based on the original shot story 'Toba Tek Singh' written by Pakistani writer Shahadat Hassan Monto.
The play 'Rishtiyan Da Ki Rakhiye Naa?' deals with the ethos of the era of partition of India into two countries viz. Hindustan and Pakistan where the people were divided on the basis of religions and they had to suffer the fall of values and humanity. Everything was divided i.e. land, people, property etc. and chaos prevailed which caused a great holocaust among masses. A large number of people of all communities were killed and their properties destroyed or looted.
In this play, the case of dividing persons who have turned mad due to traumatic effects of the process of partition are shown as being divided on the basis of their religion. That is shown as if happening quite a long time after the partition. The scene is located in a mental asylum where mentally challenged people who turned mad due to various reasons, are kept. The characters of mad people include an army person, a professor, a lawyer, Bachan Singh, a resident of Toba Tek Singh (a place), a chana and ice- cream vendor, a dumb man and a mad person who are the central characters of the play and pour out the pathetic condition of the inmates of the asylum and their tyrannies.
Through the lunatic acts and utterances the wisdom and underneath realities depicted in the plot are revealed.
The character would be performed in the play by Tejinder Singh Premee, Ajay Sharma, Ajay Gupta, Tej Pal Singh Marshal, Makhan Lal Sharma, Jang S. Verman, Romesh Sharma, Satveer Kaur, Manpreet Kaur, Jayant Sadhotra, Rajan Kumar and Vishal Sandhu.
It may be mentioned here that Manoranjan Kala Kendra (MKK) was established on 17th January, 1988 after having discussions with some lovers of art & culture. MKK is a premier and only Theatre Group in the Jammu & Kashmir state which is performing Punjabi plays regularly for decades. Since its inception in 1988, Manoranjan Kala Kendra, Jammu has contributed its role in promoting theatre, culture, literature and environmental awareness among masses. It has performed a large number of plays, culture and literary programmes, painting, singing and poetry recitation competitions on environment, plantation drives, green marches, marches against social evils and for environment and held conferences etc. and so on during its journey throughout its existence.
