| First time in 20 years: keep playing while Yatra | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 31 As preparations take a final touch for the Amarnath yatra, this year's pilgrimage will go in the annals of history as the base camp will be shifted to the newly come up Yatri Niwas. This will first time in the two decades of organized pilgrimage to Amarnath shrine that the MAM sports stadium will be free for the sports activities. With the completion of prestigious Yatri Niwas at Bhagwati Nagar, the stay of yatries has been shifted from MAM Stadium to Yatri Niwas first time after 20 years and the Stadium would be made available for the sports activities through out the year as desired by Chief Minister, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad. To review the final arrangements for the pilgrimage, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sudhanshu Pandey today chaired a meeting of officers where it was decided that a a cell would be constituted in each district headquarters under the overall supervision of the concerned Deputy Commissioner. The location for establishment of this cell in Jammu, however shall be in Yatri Niwas , Bhagwati Nagar. It was decided in the meeting, that the Deputy Commissioner Ramban would be responsible for making all the arrangements for yatries at Batote, Ramban and Banihal. Registration would done by the J&K Bank at various centres in Jammu division. There will be 10 registration centers, one each at District Headquarters. In Jammu City registration centre would be set up at Yatri Niwas, Bhagwati Nagar. J&K Bank needs to open a separate counter for registration of Sadhus. Director Health Services would arrange sufficient stock of medicines in emergency hospitals located at Batote, Ramban and Banihal. He would also provide services of medical teams with the yatra daily upto Jawahar Tunnel for care of yatries. Medical facilities would be provided at Yatri Niwas and Geeta Bhawan. Jammu Haat would be kept standby as lodging centre for the yatries. Chief Engineers, PDD, PHE and Director Health Services would ensure that all the requisite facilities are created there in case it is required to accommodate the excessive rush of yatries. Meanwhile, the Shrine Board has completed 85 per cent of the work on clearing the Baltal-Cave mountain route. A senior official of the Shrine Board today said the entire route will become passable within next three to four days.He said the work on clearing and upgrading the mountain route between Pahalgam and the cave,being undertaken by the Pahalgam Development Authority, was in full progress.He said that the route would be declared open for pilgrims within next 10 days. The Shrine Board has completed setting up prefabricated tents at more than eight places and each tent has the capacity of accommodating 1400 pilgrims.Prefabr icated toilets too were being raised.He explained that the idea behind raising the prefabricated huts and toilets was not only to ensure safe shelter for the pilgrims but also conserve ecology in the area.He said while registering the pilgrims for the yatra they were being instructed not to defile the eco system and the scenic and pollution free view of the mountain tracks. The Board has given permission for setting up 136 langars not only on the mountain route from Pahalgam to the cave or from Baltal side but on the highway between Kathua to Qazigund. Already a group of security personnel have carried out security survey of the area and troops were being deployed in the immediate vicnity of the mountain cave while police and paramilitary forces were to be sent to man various check posts from the next week. |
