| BJP smells arrival of Pak currency, PDP says 'it's rubbish' | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 31 The dual currency is not only slogan as the Pakistani currency notes have made inroads into the political body of Kashmir Valley –a report vehemently denied by the Peoples Democratic Party. Surprising all, the BJP today alleged that the PDP hands were circulating the Pakistani currency notes in the Valley in forms of garlands. "PDP workers garland their leaders with Pakistani currency notes during public meetings in the Valley", said BJP spokesman Prof Hari Om. However, the PDP was quick to react and deny the BJP charge. When contacted, a PDP leader told EARLY TIMES that his "party is of the considered view that dual currency will have to be out to use on the pattern of a European Union cooperation but reports of clandestine use of Pakistani currency is merely a figment of imagination". Earlier in the day, the BJP leader Hari Om told reporter, "things in Kashmir have deteriorated to the extent that the PDP cadres are garlanding the PDP leaders in public meetings with Pakistani currency notes." Prof Hari Om also took this opportunity to ask Chief Minister Azad and the law and order authorities to discharge their obligations towards the state and the nation by booking those who are garlanding and who are being garlanded with Pakistani currency notes, adding that any failure on their part to take action against those indulging in anti-national activities would simply mean that the Congress Government is behind all what the Muftis are doing. He said, "It is ironical that while some sitting dissident PDP MLAs have taken a strong exception to this unlawful activity, the law and order authorities and the security agencies are watching these anti-national activities as mute spectators. Reflecting further on his party's grave concern over this development of portentous dimension, he said the PDP dissident MLAs, including Sarfraz Khan, have publicly accused the PDP leaders of exploiting and inciting separatist passions in order to pollute the election process. Prof Hari Om said the PDP is not only seeking to vitiate the state's political scene for electoral gains, but also seeking the support of the powers-that-be in New Delhi so that Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha, is removed before June 18 and the duration of the impending Shri Amarnath Yatra reduced from two months to one month or "ten days". It is no wonder, he opined, that hardcore separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani has joined the PDP bandwagon to criticize the Governor alleging that "it is he who is running the state government, and not Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is toothless and meek". Meanwhile, describing its demand for introduction of dual currency as part of new economic concept the PDP leadership has ridiculed the allehations of the BJP leadership that "our party leaders were being garlanded with Pakistani currency notes." General secretary of the PDP,Nizam-ud-Din Bhatt today said the allegations leveled by the BJP against the PDP were "baseless and malicious."He said such allegations amounted to "tarnishing the secular image and credentials of the PDP." He said that "our demand for introduction of dual currency in the state was development oriented and out of economic compulsions." He said "the PDP does not need a character certificate from the BJP and our credentials as a secular organization were time tested." Bhatt did not want to attribute motives behind "our slogan on dual currency." He explained that since the prospects of reopening of border routes for trade had become bright import and export of goods could be a hassle free exercise if dual currency was introduced." He said it was better for the BJP to set its house in order before trying to paint the PDP in black colours. |
