Workshop discuss understanding conflict

With the objective to sensitize the youth of Jammu and Kashmir about the conflicts in South Asia, for their better understanding of the conflicts and work towards their resolution, Yakjah Reconcilation adn Development Network, a voluntary organisation working towards peace and conflict resolution, in collaboration with Centre for Adult, Continuing Education & Extension, University of Jammu, organised a workshop on "Understanding and Resolving Conflict" in seminar hall of Centre for Adult, Continuing Education & Extension here today. The workshop was proceeded by two-day international film festival organized by Yakjah and University of Jammu, which concluded yesterday evening at Zorawar auditorum.
The Workshop was conducted by the renowned peace activist and consultant WISCOMP Ms. Ashima Kaul who was the resource person of the workshop. Mr Basant P.Tolani, Ms Rashi Bhatia,Mr Shahnawaz Choudhary and Mr Augastya Bhatia were part of the workshop team from Yakjah.
The workshop involved students and research scholars from the University and students from colleges as well. The group of students belonging to all communities were from all the regions of Jammu & Kashmir including Turtuk, Leh, Kargil, Kashmir, Jammu etc. The students said they had come to attend the workshop to understand the cause of conflict, differences in the ideologies, lack of communication among the people and how can the state can be freed from the prolonged conflict. The workshop also involved students in the exercise so that they can evolve more and enhance the peace resolution by involving themselves in the understanding the root cause of the conflicts among the Nations.
The students further worked in the groups and discussed about the various kinds of the conflicts that had occurred and how were they resolved, and what further steps could be taken, to improve the prevailing condition, in order to enhance the peace processes.
A film "First Lession in Peace" which was based on the theme of Jew and palestininians studsents studying together in Tel Aviv
Lot of interaction took place among the resource persons and the students on the various issues icluding Kashmir, Ladakh, origin of militancy in Punjab and Kashmir,Khalistan etc. The students shared their views on the theme and lot of discussionand debate took place on the related themes of peace and combating the conflict.
Dr Kavita Suri, Assistant Director, Centre for Adult, Continuing Education & Extension, University of Jammu coordinated the workshop.Ms Pallavi Sachdeva and Sandeep Singh, Project Officers, CACE&E, Jammu University, Professor G.M.Bhat, Department of Geology, Ms Malvinder Kaur, Lecturer, Department of Library Science, JU were among those present on the occasion.
