| People waiting endlessly for free ration | | | Early Times Reporter Doda | June 1 The wait of getting three months free ration 'promised' to people here seems not to end as even after lapse of five months not half of 2,82,512 entitled families have received full quota. Early this year state government had announced to provide free ration for three months to people in the erstwhile Doda district and some parts of Udhampur and Kathua districts where dry spell had caused 80 per cent to 90 per cent damage to last Kharif crops. According to highly placed sources CAPD authorities have severely failed in providing full scale food grains to the population in far-flung areas even by April end. They said officially only families those living in main towns have received the full quota, while those living in far off areas have so far received only one and a half month ration. However, even in the areas where the department claims to have exhausted full quota, there is a general complaint that only influential persons have managed to get their due, while common persons are being denied their share on one pretext or the other. If sources are to be believed, inadvertent delay in the distribution has been caused due to the callous and indifferent attitude of the CAPD authorities who even having sufficient stocks at their disposal are not taking much interest to deliver the food grains to the beneficiaries. The situation is even worst in districts of Udhampur and Kathua where the relief was to go only some parts. According to sources the beneficiaries in the affected parts of the twin districts have received only one months ration. |
