Jammu | June 1
State Secretary CPI (M) and State President CITU Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has urged upon the Government to implement labour laws in the state of jammu and Kashmir besides stopping police interference in labour issues. He also demanded the release of wages in favour of workers working in Public Sector Units.
Addressing a massive public rally organized by Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project Workers at Chanderkot in District Ramban, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami urged government of India to handover Dulhasti and Salal projects to the State, start work on newly identified Power projects at Dulpakka, Sawlakote and Karthai and engage local youth and retrenched workers of Dulhasti and Baglihar on these projects.
Taragami while announcing the benefits to workers of the project that came through an agreement between J.P. Company and the workers Union said that as per the agreement 6.5 time's more than legal retrenchment benefits and Rs. 480 as monthly benefit to the workers of the project. Referring to Indus-Water Treaty (IWT), "it has adversely affected the economic progress of the State", he added.
Under IWT the waters of rivers passing through the State cannot be fully utilized by the State, that is why the State is in the grip of water crises today, he emphasized. He urged both India and Pakistan, who claim to defend the legitimate rights of the people of Jammu & Kashmir to compensate the losses incurred by the State under IWT.
Tarigami said that the State possesses huge hydroelectric potential, which if fully utilized could help in huge revenue and employment generation in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
On the occasion, Tarigami highlighted the problems facing the youth of the State. He dwelt upon the bankrupt policies of successive governments in the state and the centre, which had generated joblessness and desperation among the youth. He asked the youth to come forward and fight against these policies.
Javed Ahmad Zargar CITU Leader, Sham Prasad Kesar and Om Prakash Senior trade union leaders were among others who addressed the rally.
