Chadoora | June 1
Accusing the ruling coalition alliance of diluting the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, leader of opposition and former finance minister Abdul Rahim Rather has alleged that the state government has failed on all fronts.
Addressing a public meeting at Bonen, Chadoora area of Budgam district the senior National Conference leader said that since the day one when the coalition government took over the reign of power in the state, PDP-Congress alliance was hell bent to dilute the special status of Jammu and Kashmir by making amendments in the Article 370 of the constitution.
"The only aim of amendment in Transfer of Property Act was to pave a way for benefiting the non-residents of the state, who want to purchase the land in the state to settle here", Rather said.
Under a well planned conspiracy, he alleged, the coalition alliance on the name of politics and fiscal health was trying to sell the sate land to the non-residents and companies from outside the state.
Referring to the Permanent Resident (Disqualification) Bill, Mr. Rather said that the government first brought the bill in assembly and got it passed with majority and subsequently by opposing the Bill in the Upper House the ruling alliance has itself exposed before the general masses.
Under this amended bill any woman from the state after marring with a non-resident will continue to enjoy her right over the property situated in the state, he said adding by this way the government has ripped apart the law made and applicable since the Mahraja's time period.
"The alliance was double crossing the people of the state", he said adding, "On one side it claim itself to be the champion of Kashmir cause and on the other hand it is diluting the special status of the state".
Mr. Rather further expressed concern over some media reports that government was negotiating with some outside companies regarding the land owned by State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) and said that it was another attempt to mis-utilise the public wealth.
Speaking on the resolution of Kashmir issue, the NC leader was of the opinion that the Autonomy resolution put forth by the National conference was the only way out as the autonomy document has been appreciated not only on the state but on national and international level.
"However our party has made it clear that in case any other resolution or way is brought forth for the peaceful and dignified resolution of the Kashmir issue, National Conference will not come in the way and instead it will support any such proposal".
The former finance minister came down heavily upon the state government for its failure to check swelling unemployment and sky rocketing prices of essential commodities, which he said was making the lives of common masses miserable. He asked the general masses to give a benefiting reply to the ruling alliance for its misdeeds and policy which has turned the state from bad to worse.
