| PHE’s Network project by ERA takes off : Bhalla | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 1 MLA Gandhi Nagar Constituency Raman Bhalla today inaugurated the first phase of Rs. 40 crore project of laying PHE pipes in the entire area of Gandhi Nagar constituency to be executed by ERA. Under this project the areas of Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar and Nanak Nagar would be covered and would meet the water requirements even beyond 2021. The project has taken off from Nakra to Panama Chowk and from Fire Brigade office to A/D Blocks of Gandhi Nagar covering a length of 4 kms. Addressing a public gathering after inauguration, Mr. Bhalla informed that all the worne out pipes would be replaced by new ones of higher diameter i.e 3 to 10 inches. He said that redesigning of the entire PHE network in the three connected areas of Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar and Nanak Nagar would be done in a manner that assured portable drinking water in sufficient quantity reaches the households. Expressing concern over the dilapidated conditions of the old PHE pipes, he said that the leakage in pipes was leading to loss of precious water besides contamination of water due to seepage of impurities. He said that the leaking pipes were a constant source of water borne diseases like cholera especially in the summer season adding that government has come up with this extensive project of overhauling the supply pipes with the latest leakage proof pipes. He said that with this the long pending demand of the people would be fulfilled. Reiterating present government’s policy of ensuring equitable development of all the regions of the state Mr. Bhalla said that government is laying thrust on strengthening the basic infrastructure facilities like road, electricity, drinking water, health, education and park facilities. He said that it is proven fact that growth and development can only take place where the infrastructural edifice is strong. Secondary and tertiary trade and commerce related activities get boost in a state only when it has assured electricity and water supply connected with well knit road network and people are educated to participate as functionaries and perpetuators of growth. He said that the scheme of upgradation of PHE pipes was envisaged keeping in view the futuristic multiplication in the demand of geometrical population rise. He said that the project is expected to be completed in 18 months. Lauding the efforts of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for giving unmatched focus to the infrastructural growth related schemes Mr. Bhalla said that his persistent efforts and the support of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi have led to free flow of funds for development schemes to the state.
