Narrow win for Rajouri XI in inaugural tie
Prof Pran Nath Malhotra Memorial Cricket Tourney

Rajouri District XI registered a narrow one-wicket win over United Cricket Club (UCC) Udhampur in the opening tie of Prof Pran Nath Malhotra memorial cricket tournament which got underway at GGM Science College hostel ground, here today.
Batting first after winning the toss, UCC lost all their wickets for 107 runs in 29.3 overs of the 40 overs match, which, in reply, Rajouri District XI chased in 31.4 overs for the loss of nine wickets. Rajiv and Kapil were top scorers with 19 and 16 runs respectively. From Rajouri, Sajeed was most successful bowler with three for 17 in seven overs while Nazir, Vikas and Zahid shared two wickets each.
Batting second, Rajouri district XI attained their goal making 111 runs in 31.4 overs with one wicket in hand. Kulwinder made highest 28 runs while Imran contributed unbeaten 16.
Today’s match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and B K Tikoo while B B Verma was scorer. Sant Singh was observer of the match.
Earlier, before the working president of JKCA, Ramesh Mahajan declared open the tournament, a two-minute silence was observed by the office bearers and teams taking part in the opening match to pay tributes to the veteran cricketer.
Speaking to the participating teams, joint secretary of the JKCA Jammu wing, Sunit Sharma said, “ Prof Malhtora was a dedicated and committed solider of the JKCA who did a lot for the promotion of the game. From first cricketer from Jammu to lead the state team to joint and secretary and selector, Prof Malhtora remained an active member of the Association.”
Prominent among others present were vice-chairman, Sham Saroop Kalsotra, Tilak Singh, Prof Brijinder Singh, Hardev Singh Jamwal, Madan Mohan Sharma, Sehdev Singh, Sant Singh, Vijay Sharma, Ravi Kant Gupta, Desh Rattan Dubey, Ajay Singh, K B Kaw, Ashwinder Koul, Gurmeet Singh, Ravi Sharma and Rajesh Dhar.
