| Police to equip traffic cops with latest accessories | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 2 In order to equip the traffic police with better equipment,while they are on duty,the police authorities have decided to purchase traffic night safety belts,hand gloves,traffic control nose masks,traffic signals and beet helmets. These steps were being taken to make the traffic cops visible to motorists during late evenings and when it is foggy season.Also, these equipments were being provided to the cops as part of safety measures against pollution which in the twin cities of Srinagar and Jammu having touched new high.The reason being lack of pollution control devices in the industrial units and phenomenal increase in the vehicular traffic. Authorities of Traffic Department are said to have conveyed to the Government and the top brass of the police the need for raising sheds at the road rotaries where the cops could regulate traffic during the heat wave or when the Srinagar city and other towns were lashed by heavy rain and snow.Invariably traffic cops are seen taking shelter in some far away road corners or in shops during the adverse weather conditions. Official sources today said that once over 800 traffic cops were added to the current strength more safety devices were needed for ensuring fitness of the cops.They said that the demand for raising sheds at road rotaries was not in the hands of the police.They said for this the state Government has to formulate a plan which could be executed by either the PWD or by R&B or by the Municipal corporations. |
