NREGA has failed in Ramban, Doda: BJP
6/2/2008 11:14:06 PM
Early Times Reporter
Jammu | June 2
Sate BJP has charged that the NREGA Scheme has failed to take off in Ramban and Doda districts and urged upon Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad either to implement this Centrally- sponsored scheme fully as per the lay down guidelines or stop it forthwith since the scheme has become a source of corruption for implementing authorities and cause of exploitation and economic hardships to the poor labourers.
The State General Secretary Bali Bhagat after concluding month long extensive tour of interior areas of Ramban Assembly constituency said that wages have not been paid to the job card holder labourers even against the work done by them last year. He said that the job card holders are disillusioned with the scheme because if they would have worked with contractors they could have their wages in time and not reached to the stage of starvation for non-payment of wages under NREGA. He also demanded a high level enquiry into bunglings in implementation of the scheme.
Bali Bhagat also criticized government for not taking up Rs. 12.69 crore, Ramban Town and Rs. 14.20 crore Batote Town water supply schemes under augmentation for which the project has already been cleared and other drinking water scheme in the constituency for the last five and half years. He emphasized that all the sanctioned PHE schemes be executed in time bound manner including Randgali-Dundrath, Dhar, Kumait, Ranji-Batote, Rajgarh, Ladwal-Kothri, Kanthi-Karol, Sawani, Balot, Sanasar, Kanga-Parnote and other schemes.
Bali Bhagat urged for electrification of all left out villages in the constituency immediately which include Ganote, Narthiyal, Dhar and other villages.
Expressing serious concern over huge damage to standing crops, agriculture land and orchards due to cloud-brust and hail storm and Bulandpur, Khronti, Kathote, Mahot, Jattar, Nilhote and other villages of Assar block, Bali Bhagat demanded that special teams of officers of Revenue, Agriculture and Horticulture be deployed to asses the loss of farmers and provided full cash compensation without delay. He also demanded that free fertilizer, seeds and other agriculture inputs be provided to the affected farmers to sow fodder or some early maturing crops so that they could stastained their live stock.
