| No fertiliser shortage in J-K: Paswan | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 2 The Union Government today said Jammu and Kashmir does not have any shortage of fertilisers and adequate quantity have been made available to the state from time to time. "There is no shortage of fertilisers in Jammu and Kashmir. We are providing fertilisers according the projections made by the state government. In fact, we have provided more than requisitioned from time to time," Union Minister for Fertilisers and Chemicals Ram Vilas Paswan told reporters. Reports of shortage of fertilisers have been pouring in from many areas of the state as the farming season begins. Meanwhile, CPI(M) state secretary M Y Tarigami asked the Congress-led coalition government to provide adequate quantity of fertilisers to the farmers of the state. A grave situation has arisen as a result of non-availability of fertilisers to the farmers in the valley. Despite repeated assurances made to the farmers, the state administration is not visible, Tarigami said in a statement here. The non-availability of fertilisers would adversely affect the crop production during the current year if urgent measures were not taken to meet the demands of the farmers, he said asking the government not to rely on hollow slogans and instead heed to the writing on the wall. Farmers could solve their problems by coming on the streets and they have the will and capacity to take account of what the state government had performed so far, the CPI(M) leader said. |
