| School building collapses, four children injured | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 2 Four school children of a private school in Nagrotra near here were critically injured when an under construction pillar collapsed and fell on children appearing in their unit test examination in a makeshift classroom on Monday. According to police reports the school children were writing their unit exam under the shade of a tent on the second floor of the Shastri Model school in Nagrota when high speed winds blew off the tent and the under construction pillars crumbled. The children injured in the accident were immediately rushed to the Government Medical College where the condition of one of the school children was stated to be critical. The school children suffered injuries on their legs and heads. One of the students narrated the entire episode to media men at the medical college. The student, with a plaster on his leg said they were writing their unit test when suddenly tent came down crumbling due to high speed winds. This was followed by a collapse of an under-construction pillars of the new class room. School principal said it was an accident and informed that the injured children were immediately rushed to the hospital. The incident has however raised a question mark over the working of the private school managements as they attach little importance to the safety and security of students despite charging hefty fee from them every month. |
