| Army holds medical camps | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 3 To change the lives of the people in the villages of the border areas especially Rajouri, Poonch and Mendhar regions, Army’s 16 Corps took upon the noble cause of providing the medical care for hundreds of men, women and children who had been maimed on account of mines/improvised explosive devices and shelling or suffered loss of vision due to old age. The Army, with help of Pritam Spiritual Trust, Poonch and Bhagwan Mahavir Viking Sahitya Samiti, New Delhi, organized medical camps wherein, a total of 645 villagers were screened and subsequently provided with 134 artificial limbs (Jaipur foot), 118 calipers, 61 crutches and 23 shoes free of cost in last one year. The artificial limbs provided to the handicapped persons are state of art, light weight and made up of fibre reinforced glass. The White Knight Corps also took the unique initiative of organizing free eye camps and conducted cataract surgery of affected persons of the border villages. A total of 213 villagers were screened for cataract surgery and 50 patients were successfully operated upon with their eye sight restored in last one year. The projects under Operation Sadbhavana have become a symbol of peace and helped in the development process of healing and nation building in the region. Army in all its future ventures will continue its endeavours to achieve this in addition to its primary role of being the harbinger of National security. |
