| Terminated CRC employees seek CM's intervention | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 3 Notwithstanding the tall claims of Congress led coalition government in the state to deliver equal justice to all the three regions of Jammu and Kashmir State, the echoes of regional discrimination against Jammu region are still not heard in the political corridors of this militancy-inflicted state. The glaring example of "sheer discrimination" against Jammu region can be well gauged from the fact that all the employees of Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Persons with Disabilities Roop Nagar were rendered jobless without any prior notice by the state government. The Centre was established by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India at Roop Nagar in 2005 and few employees were engaged on contractual basis from 2005. The employees of Centre said that they have been working with dedication and made the centre fully functional, adding that on the instructions of the authorities several camps were organized at various places in Jammu and other vicinities and even during 2007-08 the Office of Director was moved to Jammu partially. The objective of this centre was to provide basic and immediate facility to the needy and deserving persons, added the employees. They alleged, "Concerned authorities through an order have decided to close the centre with immediate effect. The authorities have also discontinued the services of employees with effect from June 1, 2008 and employees have been asked to receive their salaries upto May 31 as per their attendance. It may be mentioned here that Jammu based leaders and those from Ladakh continue to accuse the Kashmiri politicians of dominating the political, social and economic space in the state. Besides this, Jammu leaders are also accusing Kashmiri leadership of adopting "discriminatory attitude" towards Jammu division. One of the employees alleged, "It was unfortunate that after the transfer of the then Director Sood, the Director Social Welfare Kashmir Mohammad Abass Dar who was holding additional charge of CRC, started victimization with this centre on one or the other pretext and even with-holded the monthly salaries of employees which was a meager amount of Rs. 11,000 per month." He further alleged that immediately after the transfer of the Director, the Administrative Officer surprisingly issued an order wherein the contractual appointments have been terminated and the centre at Jammu has been closed rendering all the employees working with this Centre jobless. The employees have written a letter to Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad seeking his intervention to take up the matter with the Ministry of Social Justice & Employment, Government of India for continuation of this Centre at Jammu. |
