Police recovers 10-years old drug addict
School boy had withdrawn Rs 2.60 lakh through father’s ATM

Silencing the protests over a missing boy, the Srinagar Police, in a record time, has recovered an absconding schoolboy, and confirmed that his addiction for drugs forced him decamp father’s bank account with Rs 2.6 lakhs.
The Police has recovered a boy who had gone missing from Bypass, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Sadder, a stolen ATM of his father has also been recovered and two persons have been arrested in this connection.
Giving details of the case at a press conference, at police station sadder today, SSP Srinagar S. A. Mujtaba said that on 30.05.2008, Police Post Chanpora received a written complaint from Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan, resident of Bypass, also owner of Mir Stationery Lal Mandi Srinagar, that his son namely Dilawar Ahmad Mir was missing from their home since 29.05.2008. the description of the missing boy was that he was 10 years old studying in 6th standard. Details of description roll were also given. On this, a police party set out for search while a proper search file was also opened by Division Officer, police post Chanpora.
He said that, the police had an interaction with the father of missing boy, who during interaction stated that his own ATM card of Punjab National Bank was also missing, even before his son had gone missing. During interaction the father of the missing child also stated that the behaviour of the child had remained questionable at home also. The police focused on this information provided by the father of missing child and prioritized the finding of the ATM Card. The police also collected the bank statement of the account of the missing ATM.
During analysis it was found that the ATM was being used since 02.12.2007, and till date 109 withdrawals had been made amounting to a total of Rs. 2.5 lacs. These withdrawals were made from various ATM locations at Court Road Srinagar, Lal Chowk, Anantnag, Awantipora, Rawalpora and Udhampur. The latest withdrawal was made from the ATM machine of Punjab National Bank at Court Road Srinagar. The concerned Branch Manager was contacted who helped the police investigation team and provided the details of photograph of the person who used their ATM machine at Court Road. During analysis one person whose video clipping was recovered during the time of withdrawal was of the said ATM was identified as Khalid, resident of Jharkhand, he added.
Khalid had been working in a Furniture Factory in Bijbehara Anantnag. The said Factory was raided by the Police immediately and two persons were picked up for questioning. An amount of Rs. 46,200/ was also recovered from one of them, who on further identification was none other than Khalid Ansari, son of Anwar Mian, resident of Deogarh, Jharkhand. On his sustained interrogation he divulged that the missing boy had run away from his home and was putting up in Alochibagh Srinagar. He also stated that a person namely Mohammad Akbar, son of Pahlu Ansari, resident of Deogarh, Jharkhand, who too is working in that Furniture factory owned by one Mohammad Aarif, resident of Alochibagh. The said furniture factory was also raided and the child was recovered. The broken ATM Card was also recovered, SSP added further.
During interaction with him it was learnt that the child, Dilawar Ahmad Mir had a habit of withdrawing money from his father's ATM Card and spending for purchase of Mobile Phones, cigarettes, drug etc. He had also purchased one Motorcycle TVS Star Sport in the name of his friend Bilal Ahmad Ganie, son of Gh. Rasool Ganie, resident of Bagat Barzulla. He had developed friendship with some labourers in his uncle's furniture factory in Bijbehara. On 29.05.2008 when his father enquired about the ATM card from him, the child fearing that his involvement will be known to his family members, he ran away from his home. He went to Bijbehara to his uncle's factory and started staying with Khalid Ansari and from there he shifted to Alochibagh to stay with one Mohd Akbar, an acquaintance of Khalid Ansari.
The boy was recovered and the mystery was solved with the active help of the family members and their trust in police investigation. In this connection a case has been registered in police station Sadder for further investigation. The father of the child has been advised to have his son treated and in case of need, the service of Police Hospital are offered which is running a de-addiction and counseling ward at Control Room Srinagar.
