Jammu | June 4
The scholars of University of Jammu (JU) today alleged malafide, unlawful and criminal intentions of the university authorities in general and HoD Mathematics, Prof. B. S. Komal, in particular who according to them was using political pressure to appoint a particular person as a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics.
Addressing the press conference, Pavinder Singh, JURSEA general secretary said that the said post was advertised in October 2006 but no interviews were conducted in spite of the fact that Department was reeling under shortage of two teachers.
In December 2007, interviews for the post of professors and readers were conducted but interviews for the post of lecturer was ignored intentionally. Within one week after the above mentioned interviews, the post was again re-advertised.
“When HoD was approached regarding not conducting the interviews and why the post was re-advertised in spite of the fact that a sizeable number of deserving candidates have already applied for the post, the answer of the head was very surprising as he told us that he wanted to conduct interviews earlier but the authorities decided not to conduct it and surprisingly, the interview date was fixed on 15 May 2008, when the course work for the current academic session was over and HoD was about to complete his tenure of three years on May 30, 2008”, he added.
He further said that when they talked to HoD regarding the conduct of interviews at an inappropriate time, he defended himself by saying that he was not aware about these interviews and shifted the blame on Dean Academic Affairs.
Meanwhile, the interviewing candidates held a meeting and discussed in details about the time of interviews at an inappropriate time and approached the Vice Chancellor in this connection and narrated the whole story who in turn postponed the interviews, he added.
He apprised that the scholars and interviewing candidates started getting threats from a group of miscreants who threatened them not to raise any voice against the HoD and conduction of interviews. They even threatened some of the faculty members and said that they’d helped Prof. Komal in the appointment of his wife as lecturer in Punjabi Department and now Prof Komal will adjust their candidate namely Shalu Sharma, wife of a former student leader and President of a political party.
Further, he alleged that there’s a nexus of criminal elements, authorities and HoD which is clear from the fact that he has not been replaced even after completion of his tenure of three years and the date of interviews has been fixed again in spite of all these controversies, which is not justifiable.
