| CM visits Khirbhawani, inspects arrangements for annual festival | | Announces Rs. 1 cr for sewerage treatment plant | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | June 4 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today visited the Khirbhawani shrine complex to take stock of arrangements for pilgrims on the annual Khirbhawani festival on Wednesday. Accompanied by Minister for Forests, Qazi Muhammad Afzal, senior advocate Ashok Bhan, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mehboob Iqbal, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, S. M. Sahai and Managing Director, JKPCC, Duleep Thusoo, the Chief Minister went round the shrine complex and inspected facilities for the pilgrims who are expected to throng the shrine on the festival day. The Chief Minister enquired about the status of the integrated development of the Khirbhawani Shrine project and impressed upon the concerned officials to speed up its completion. He was informed that the total cost of the project was Rs. 16.50 crores of which works to the extent of Rs. 13.05 crores had been executed. The completed works include 65 one-room tenements, 4 dormitories, 1 prayer hall and 1 yagyashala. The sanctum sanctorum had also been renovated. Separate bathroom and latrine blocks for men and women had also been constructed. The Chief Minister assured release of Rs. one crore for urgent construction of 0.7 MLD sewerage treatment plant for the shrine complex. He asked the JKPCC to start work on the sewerage treatment plant immediately after the festival on June 11 is over. He also gave instructions for blacktopping of the 4 km stretch of the road leading to the shrine from Beehama chowk besides improvement of the inner roads within the complex. Azad asked all concerned departments to extend facilities to pilgrims and ensure their smooth and comfortable visit to the shrine. A large number of local people had also gathered on the occasion and assured the Chief Minister that they would accord traditional welcome to the pilgrims. |
