| CCI flays ‘money for darshan’ scheme | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 4 Chamber of Commerce and Industry in a meeting chaired by Ram Sahai, president expressed grave concern over the decision of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board to introduce a scheme of fees for priority darshan. As per a press release, the members were highly agitated over the issue which they said is likely to hurt the religious sentiments of general public. “Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine board was constituted with a view to discipline the yatra, to generalize the income for the development and providing better facilities to the yatris, also to discourage the commercialization of this most sacred shrine for the personal benefit of one trust and few individuals,” Sahai said. He added, “But the present decision of the board has totally negated the impression of the public who expressed strong resentment over the commercialization of darshan. Infact this is unfortunate that the members of the board are from outside the state whose experience and expertise in the matters of development can not be challenged but not being local they don’t have any emotional attachment with the most reversed shrine. Hence the commercial aspect of their decision can not be the only basis of the purpose for which the board has been constituted.” Chamber of Commerce and Industry while expressing solidatory with the people of Katra and yatris extended full support to the ongoing agitation over there appeals to governor, the chairman of the board to respect the religious sentiments of the public and withdraw this order immediately, the release said. |
