| Wrestling: Rehmat Ali bags Ist Sher-e-Duggar title | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 4 Rehmat Ali of Doda (presently at Maller Kotla) bagged the Ist Sher-e-Duggar title beating Vinod Kumar of Chandigarh in the main bout played at Sungal (Pouni) in district Reasi. The event was organized by Sungal Dangal Committee in association with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association. In another event, Abdul Gani, younger brother of Rehmat Ali, clinched the Kumar-e-Duggar title outplaying Parveen of Amritsar in Punjab. The winner of Sher-e-Duggar title was given away a cash prize of Rs 6000 while runners-up was presented a cash award of Rs 5000 besides other gifts by the organizers. Additional Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Mohd Hussain Bhatti was chief guest, who gave away titles to the winners and runners-up. General secretary J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Rakesh Khajuria was guest of honour while president of the Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma presided. “In all, 32 bouts took place in the day-long events wherein a strong crowd of about 5,000 people turned-up and enjoyed the fights. Taking into consideration the interest shown by the people of Pouni, I request the Wrestling Association to hold more and more competitions in the area,” organizing secretary of the dangal, Sanjeev Sharma said. Members of the technical committee who worked hard in making the event a success were Sanjeev Sharma, Capt. Jagdish Raj (Retd), Jugal Kishore Banathia, Pt Dhani Ram. Capt. Ram Lal (Retd), Sardar Ranjeet Singh, Prabhu Dayal, Dawarka Nath, Mohd Fareed, Ranga Pahalwan, Shyam Pandoh, Isher Dass and Shashi Sharma. |
