7/8/2006 9:03:51 PM
From B L KAK
NEW DELHI, July 8: Kashmir-Scandinavian Council (KSC) is in action. The KSC, like other Kashmir-specific groups abroad, seems aware of the relevance of Pakistan-based organisations, political and official, for keeping the 'Kashmir pot' boiling.
No wonder, Ali Shahnawaz Khan, executive director of the Kashmir-Scandinavian Council, travelled to Pakistan and made an important announcement in Islamabad about the KSC's plan to launch a world-wide Kashmir awareness campaign. Proposed drive is to highlight the UN-recognised politcal rights of the "struggling people" of Jammu and Kashmir.
Shahnawaz Khan hails from Rawalakot in Pakistan ocupied Kashmir (PoK). He is engaged in economic activities in Norway. In Plain language, he is a businessman. Kashmir politics is his business, too. In a media interview, Khan had a signifcant disclosure to make: A number of members of the Norwegian Parliament have already been engaged on Kashmir.
Khan was quoted as insisting that Norway wants a "peaceful negotiated settlement" of Kashmir issue. The Norwegian people, he also insists, are aware of the sensitivities of the Kashmiris "because we remain in political engagements with their elected lot".
During his stay in Pakistan Shahnawaz Khan had a meeting with the Norwegian ambassador in Islamabad in the Norwegian Embassy . Khan's future line of action: In all European parliaments even in the Russian Doma he wants to set up Kashmir sympathisers groups. "Kashmir cause is dear to us all wherever we may live", he asserted.
And the Pak media reported that the Norwegian ambassador appreciated the socio-political role of Shahnawaz in cementing the ties of friendship between Pakistan and Norway.
Shahnawaz Khan also had a meting with Pakistan Information Minister, Muhammad Ali Durrani. Known for his support to "liberation movement in Indian Kashmir", Durrani appreciated Khan's efforts for popularising the cause of Kashmir in the Norwegian region. Durrani was reported to have reiterated the standpoint of government of Pakistan regarding Kashmir and assured the KSC executive director of Pakistan's support to Kashmiris.
