| Mufti seeks votes for finishing ‘agenda’ | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 4 Picking up the threads from where Mehbooba had left last week, the Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today described his regime as best but said that the agenda remained unaccomplished due to paucity of time. Mufti’s obvious reference was that due to change of guard midway, the PDP could not do what it had promised to the people or intended to do. This was the catchphrase coined by party president Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar last week when she asked people to vote PDP to power fulfillment of the agenda. "Although PDP has set an example of good governance, our task is still unaccomplished", he said, adding, "Our agenda is the secure peace, process and prosperity in this state and to restore dignity and honour of people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh". "In the coming assembly elections we will seek mandate to carry forward our pro-people agenda", he said and asked the people participate in elections in big number to strengthen democratic institutions in the State. Mufti was addressing a workers’ meeting at the party headquarters here this afternoon. Calling upon the party workers to prepare themselves for the forthcoming Assembly elections, PDP patron said that the party would fight elections on its performance. "PDP led regime has not only facilitated the peace process but also provided good governance to the people of this State". He called upon party workers to educate the people about policies and programmes of the PDP regime and to make a comparision with the previous regime of National Conference “Atrocities, violation of human rights, custodial killings and corruption were legitimized during the National Conference regime", Mr Sayeed said and recalled how governments jobs were brazenly auctioned in open market and backdoor appointments were made during the government of National Conference. "It was our regime which brought transparency and accountability in government", he said and asked the people to keep in the mis-rule of National Conference while casting their votes in the coming assembly elections. Mufti exuded confidence that the peace process would be set into motion and be taken to the logical conclusion. He, however, expressed his concern over visible impediment in futher accelerating the initiative taken by the coalition regime for establishing sustainable and lasting peace in this region. "With the establishment of a democratic elected government in Pakistan the present situation in sub-continent offers a historical opportunity to consolidate the reconciliation and peace process", he suggested, adding I am hopeful that leadership of both the countries would initiate some concrete steps to realize the dream of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to establish peace and tranquility in this region". He stressed on the need of exploring new cross border avenues in the field of trade, commerce, tourism and free travel to achieve desired results from the Confidence Building Measures (CBMs). Stressing on the need for the implementing recommendations of the Working Groups without any further delay, Mr Sayeed said that this would address to the social, economic and political aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He further said that implementation of the recommendations of the Working Groups not only add substance to the peace process, but would put positively and encouraging impact across-the- border. Without naming BJP, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said that those who have launched malicious campaign against PDP should keep in mind that the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajapyee and his deputy Lal Krishan Advani had endorsed the healing touch policy. "The then NDA regime had fully supported our peace process", he reminded. |
