92% of the area of Jammu & Kashmir has no restriction: MEA
9/12/2019 9:46:55 PM

New Delhi, Sept 12

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday stated that 92% of the area of Jammu & Kashmir has no restriction presently and normalcy has returned to the valley.

"Earlier, restrictions had been imposed by local administration in some parts to maintain law and order. Some day time restrictions remain in only 11 of the total 199 Police Stations. Government offices have been made fully functional from Aug 16," MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said in a statement.

He informed that 20339 schools are open and classes are being conducted.

"Primary and Middle reopened on 19 August; Secondary schools reopened on 26 August. Examinations in Government Medical College Srinagar held 05-12 September and 24 September -12 October 2019," Kumar said in a statement.

According to the MEA spokesperson, hospitals and medical facilities are functioning normally.

"There is no shortage of medicines. All 376 notified medicines and 62 essential medicines are available in adequate quantity. Essential medicine worth Rs. 32 crores (approx USD 5 Million) received in Jammu & Kashmir between 20 July – 23 August 2019 (more than average). 6 weeks reserve of all medicines available in all Government hospitals," the MEA spokesperson stated.

No case of over-pricing of medicines, essential supplies found in more than 72 surprise checks. In Srinagar, 1165 out of 1666 chemists shops are open. In Kashmir valley, 65% of the 7630 retail chemists and 4331 wholesale chemists are open, he said.

Kumar said enough stock of baby foods are available in Jammu & Kashmir and is routinely replenished. Stocks for 3 weeks are available, he added.

Banking and ATM facilities operating normally and cash is regularly loaded so that public do not face any difficulty, he said.

"More than 14 Million USD equivalent Indian Rupees have been disbursed through J&K Bank ATMs alone," said he.

There is no shortage of cooking gas. 850,000 LPG cylinders have been distributed in Srinagar in the last three week, the MEA spokesperson informed.

The Indian government recently scrapped the Article 370 which provided special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The government bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir with an assembly and Ladakh without an assembly.

The delegation at UNHRC informed that despite challenging circumstances, Jammu & Kashmir’s Civil Administration is ensuring basic services, essential supplies, normal functioning of institutions, mobility and nearly full connectivity.
