| Congress in firefighting mode | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 4 In the post Kundal scenario, the state unit of Congress is hit by a factional bug as one section has launched a clandestine campaign against the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and the other section is busy denying the ‘unwelcome’ assertions. The Congress leaders are rushing to the media swearing their loyalties with the Chief Minister and pledging their support to him in whosoever he intends to induct in the cabinet. Interestingly the situation has been created by a section of Congress leaders who are clandestinely feeding their media with their reservations on induction of BR Kundal in the cabinet. In this scenario when dozens of mouths are rolling out unhealthy statements, the pro-Azad lobby is tasked to deny all these assertions. Only the previous day Congress veteran Mangat Ram Sharma and many others issued a statement pledging their support to the Chief Minister on all issued, particularly on induction of BR Kundal in the cabinet. While the Kundal issue was yet to settle down that another ball has been set rolling the political landscape which says that the Congress high command is planning to recall Azad to New Delhi to hold party’s poll management in other states going to elections later this year. Though this is a compliment for Azad who is credited with ensuring victory for the party even at many weak pitches, but this compliment is essentially seen as ‘left handed’ creating a confusion in Jammu and Kashmir unit of the party. In this backdrop, the Minister for Social Welfare Abdul Gani Vakil has called for ignoring rumours floated by some vested interests regarding calling back of Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad to New Delhi. Terming it a baseless canard aimed at creating uncertainty in the state, he said people behind it were actually frustrated by growing legitimacy of Chief Minister and his pro-people development policies. Vakil said that Congress party under the patronage of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and young political icon Mr. Rahul Gandhi was emerging strong force in the country. "Critics of the congress portraying it as weakening force were living in fool's paradise", he added. "Taken the proposition about calling back of Chief Minster to New Delhi at face value as true, Vakil said it reflected the agreement of the rumour-mongers on the point that Azad was a high calibre statesman whose services are required at national level", he maintained. The Minister said that visionary decisions taken by Azad led government on development, economic and political fronts were greatly helping congress to consolidate political space in all the regions of the state. "This has become constant pestering source for his detractors", he added. Vakil said Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad was specially made Chief Minister of J&K for transforming state's socio-economic and development profile as he possessed administrative acumen and economic vision-ideally suited to steer the state on path of peace and progress. "He will, therefore, continue to hold his position till he accomplishes the goal of making J&K a stable and prosperous state even after elections if congress is voted back to power", he maintained. The Minister said that state has come out of turbulent period mainly due to just policies of Azad led government. He said due attention was given to development aspirations of remote and far-flung districts and areas, referring to opening of university campuses at Kupwara and Kargil. |
