BGSBU holds convention on environment

The World Environment Day was celebrated in the Centre for Biodiversity Studies 'CBS', Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri in an impressive manner.
As a part of its convention CBS commemorates this event every year with a view to reaffirm the commitment in the communities, companies and the countries for environment conservation. The slogan for this years Environment Day selected by the United Nations Environment Programme UNEP is Kick the habit: for a low carbon Economy! Global Warming is doubtlessly one of the most relevant issues of this era thus UNEP has requested all countries to take measure for minimizing emissions and increasing energy efficiency.
CBS made a difference by involving children from the surrounding villages for participating in various environment related competitions. The children from these backward villages used their imagination and ingenuity in expressing their feelings for environment. These children where prompted to put on drawing sheets their ideas and dreams about the surroundings and the environmental issues bothering the future citizens of our country.
The celebrations also included the on-the-spot painting and an environment quiz competitions among the students of the various local schools of the town. Meanwhile Prof. R. N. Gohil, Director of the Centre delivered a thought provoking popular lecture on "Protect Environment for Future for students and various guest on the occasion". Gohil highlighted the major issues and consequences of the challenges to our environment in a very lucid way.
The celebrations culminated with a prize distribution function held in the CBS. The function was attended by personnel from the University administration, dignitaries from public and teachers from various participating schools. Col. K. K. Dogra, Principal College of Engineering and Technology highlighted the need for environment conservation in his address. Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed Zarri welcomed the guest and introduced the event at the onset. The function was compared by Dr. Sudha Jala Kohli, Mehjabeen Ara conducted the quiz while Mamta Bhat presented vote of thanks.
