Jammu | June 5
Carrying forward its glorious legacy of seventy two years, Model Institute of Education & Research (MIER) has been approved as a Partner Institution by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). This novel scheme, conceived by the University Grants Commission (UGC), IGNOU, Distance Education Council and the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) under the guidance of Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) aims to combine the best trends in open and distance learning with conventional teaching- learning pedagogies . It would thus facilitate capacity building and strengthening the conventional systems of higher education, helping achieve the projected National targets related to access and equity in higher education. As partner institution MIER is authorized to offer any under-graduate and post-graduate programme approved by IGNOU. Only select institutions/Universities aross India with high academic credentials have been selected by IGNOU under the scheme to transact IGNOU approved curriculum at their respective campuses.
Dr. Arun K.Gupta, Chairman MIER Group of Institutions described achieving IGNOU Partner status as a significant achievement for the institution and felt that it was reaffirmation of the high quality that the MIER Group has come to be associated with. He felt that MIER would now be better positioned to cater to the learning needs of working professionals, students and the general public of Jammu. In the first phase, MIER plans to offer ten programmes under the scheme including Ph.D (Education), M.Phil (Education), M.A. (Education), MBA, MCA, BCA, MTM, M.A. (Eng), B.Ed and a Diploma on Women Empowerment. Course work for these programmes is expected to start in July 2008, while the last date for admission is 15th June, 2008. Dr. Gupta highlighted that the fee for these programmes has been kept at par with those fixed by IGNOU.
