Jammu being made free of obscenity
DM imposes restrictions on screening movies, displaying posters

District Magistrate Jammu, Mr. Hirdesh Kumar Singh today convened a meeting regarding ban on the display of obscene posters and screening of films promoting obscenity.
Additional District Magistrate (ADM) M.S. Sheikh Rajinder Singh, S.P. North Mr. Sanjay Kotwal, Joint commissioner JMC Mr. J.S. Tandon, Tehsildar, petitioners and cinema hall owners participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, it was conveyed that every cinema hall owner shall get every film likely to be released in the cinema hall examined from Additional District Magistrate 48 hours prior to its exhibition.
It was further disclosed that under the provisions of J&K Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1985, any person who defaces any property in public view by writing or marking with ink, chalk, paint or any other material shall be punishable under the act.
In addition to it, no poster, advertisement, sketch, synopsis or programme of the film shall be displayed anywhere outside the licensed place, which is likely to be injurious to the morality or encourage or incite any form of crime or lead to disorder or offend the feeling of any section of public.
In the meeting it was further resolved that no obscene poster shall be allowed in and around the city of temples. It was decided that the Municipal and Police authorities shall jointly start a drive to clean up the city of obscene posters and other materials which are found pasted against the walls, structures and hoardings etc in and around the city of temples. Moreover if any violation is observed an FIR shall be registered against defaulters and strict action shall be taken against them.
In addition, ADM, Jammu and Tehsildar, Jammu shall also start a drive in the matter separately and both the teams shall furnish the compliance report to the District Magistrate, Jammu within 4 days.
